TENTATIVE MORNINGSIDE SNOW POLICY

6901 Ames Street
Morningside, Maryland 20746
301-736-2300

Following is the proposed Inclement Weather Events Policy for The Town of Morningside:

Once information has been gathered concerning the snow event, Step 1 will go into effect…

STEP 1

(A) PRE-TREAT: Place a light covering of salt on the pavement throughout the Town prior to precipitation;

(B) During the day of the event, continue to monitor the streets and common areas adding the salt mix as necessary; when snow reaches or threatens to reach 2” in depth, plowing operation will commence;

(C) When the snowfall ends, assess the condition of the town and continue to clear the roads and common areas as necessary.

STEP 2

Initially one lane will be plowed on all streets to make them passable. As conditions allow,
all streets will then be widened and plowed curb-to-curb where possible.

STEP 3

Public Works is staffed around the clock during snow events. For questions or more

The Public Works Department is responsible for clearing roadways including plowing &
salting as warranted by weather conditions.

Within three (3) days after an event, Public Works will convene and review with the Mayor
how we addressed said event.

We will evaluate what occurred and where we can improve on and/or amend our
performance. This teachable moment will allow us to enhance our implementation and/or
to be better prepared for the next event.

Always park your vehicles as close to the curb as possible on the odd side of the
street, or in your own driveway, so that the plow trucks can operate safely on the
open roadway.

PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT ANY VEHICLE THAT IS PARKED ILLEGALLY ON THE
STREET CAN BE TICKETED AND TOWED AT OWNER’S EXPENSE!
